Effect of Postweld Heat Treatments on Type IV Creep Failure in the Intercritical Heat-Affected Zone of 10% Cr Martensitic Steel Welded with Haynes 282 Filler

This study investigated the effect of postweld heat treatment (PWHT) conditions on Type IV failure behavior 10% Cr martensitic steel welds using Haynes 282 filler. The welded joints were subjected to PWHT at temperatures 688, 738, and 788 °C for 4 8 h. Creep tests carried out 600 under a stress 200 MPa. as-welded joint without showed cracking due growth voids around Laves phase by localized creep deformation in intercritical heat-affected zone (ICHAZ). properties PWHTed 688 similar those PWHT. On other hand, 738 exhibited significantly longer life lower amount ICHAZ than °C; this could be result homogenization microstructure during °C. However, same mode. Meanwhile, shortest study. location was shifted base metal away from HAZ, severe plastic occurred softened matrix excessive tempering.
